We’re going to Wattpad!

Over the next few days, chapters from a few of the books I’m writing will be up on Wattpad.

By doing so and getting some feedback, I can prioritize which ones to focus on and wrap up!

As of the now; on Wattpad, you can read the first chapter to a parallel novel to Exhumation – the saga of a character you briefly met in Exhumation, but of which little is known! Let me know what you think and if you think it’s worth continuing 🙂

Check it out!

The Hand that cut the Stone

I’m now live on Patreon…

Hi Folks,

After finally releasing the Print Edition of Exhumation, things took a bit of a dive. Some of you may or may not know – but I have recently hit a bit of a health roadblock. I am no long working full time and I’m trying to understand what it is I need to do next with my life. As my health recovers, I have some time to consider what is good in life.

Maybe I will read more, grow my hair and become wise…

Actually, I have a lot of writing in the pipeline. But do I make the jump and hammer out tome after tome? I can do it, but should I?

Should I burn countless hours and coin for potentially no reason – especially if no one is ever going to enjoy the fruits of my labour?

So I thought I would give Patreon a go – a decent indicator if anyone is remotely interested in my continuing my writing. Until now, all my writing time and investment as been at my own cost. Writing, Artwork, Promo and Marketing. It’s been a bit of a drain, but unless you are one of the writing deities – this is not a cheap market to stay in.

So if you are one of those random folks who likes my work, or would like me to continue writing at a regular pace – please consider being my Patron. Small investment – MASSIVE REWARDS. No Pyramid scheme, I promise. It’s more of a Tetrahedron scheme. 🙂

Calling all NetGalley’ers

It’s been nearly a year since I first published Exhumation in Kindle Format. A few revisions and edits later – I’m ready to print!

So… I’m calling out to all NetGalley’ers with a penchant for Epic Fantasy — are interested in reviewing Exhumation before it goes into print for the first time?

I would be very appreciative if you were to do so! The link to the NetGalley page is below.

Beneficence be Praised!

Here’s the blurb from the back cover:

In a city where deep resentments lie,
of kin banished to the shadows,
with no light in the sky;
a high tide of revenge,
draws ever nigh,
as a guardian still questions…
“who and what am I?”

In his position as the Prime Prefect, the Underborn Pious Argentum is responsible for the security and order of Sanctuary; an ancient and impenetrable stronghold coveted by those inside and outside its walls.

As if sedition and famine weren’t enough to deal, Pious battles disturbing visions that feel like memories; nightmarish memories of an alien landscape, where a monstrous fiend relentlessly pursues him.

While the long and fragile strands of peace are fraying, and disorder threatens stability, Pious will have an opportunity to learn of his past — beyond the incident that stripped him of his memories. In doing so, he may lose everything he has and is.

War destroyed who he was.
War rebuilt who he is.
War made him the Prime Prefect.
War hasn’t finished with him yet.

Nicole’s Goodreads Review – 4/5!

“This book took me by surprise!

It took me a bit to get into this book but once I started I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The world was very well developed and I enjoyed the main character Pious a lot. The main plot point, once it became obvious to me, really captured me and took me in. It’s the type of book that I couldn’t wait to see what happened at the end and I’m glad I read it. It’s been a while since I’ve read a fantasy novel like this, and I would definitely recommend.”

Heath Banyai’s Goodreads Review – 5/5!

“As a previous review said, this book takes a while to get into. Simon Chapman spends the first quarter or so of the book doing some fairly heavy exposition and world building. Every page contains a simply huge amount of new terms, social orders, social classes, units of measurement, historical events, fauna, flora, minerals etc that it takes a while for the story to get rolling.

But stick with it. Once the initial expositionary stuff is out the way, the story really gets moving fast. Chapman has created a great fantasy world and the books early set-up is evidence of the care and though he has put into populating his world.

When things do kick into gear, the action comes thick and fast, and there are a number of great set-piece action sequences and fight scenes.

Hopefully this is the start of a great new fantasy series, I look forward to reading more. As it is, it’s a really enjoyable debut work.”

Friday the 22nd – the day of reckoning.

And just like a B’Astian creeps from the Engulfing Forest – so does Exhumation emerge from pre-order.

Tomorrow – Friday the 22nd of September – marks the day the public gets full access to the book.

Brutal book reviewers, hungry and bored readers, hateful cynics – arm yourself with a copy of the book and bite into the meaty fantasy that is the Exhumation – the 1st book in the Epics of Existentia series.

You can sink your teeth in earlier, by downloading yourself a copy of the glossary for Exhumation – a lengthy text that will be useful to have on hand while reading the main text. The glossary is extracted from the book itself – so no surprises there. Page link is below.

Glossaries and Legendariums

An immediate update will occur to the pre-ordered book, upon the pre-order editing lock being released. This update contains some minor formatting changes.

Run or Die – progress images

Well folks, some progress on a few fronts.

The illustrious illustrator Adam Edwards and I are underway in the production of our first graphic novel – Run or Die.

It’s Running Man meets Terminator in an all out rapid assault on the senses. In a not so distant future, where our administrative and caretaker assistant AI has recognized that life – especially human – is the embodiment of disorder, oppression begins on a global scale. At first; not being able to directly end a life, they begin a gradual process of enslavement and rehabilitation. After countless wars, internal strife amongst human factions and the almost total enslavement of the human race – there is one last chance and push to end the AI once and for all. The only problem is there’s only a few hours left to complete the task. What’s worse is that there is only one team left that can pull it off – and they don’t play nice. Especially with each other.

If you like your action sliced thick – with layers of assault droids, rail guns, trenches and the stench ridden dead – then this one’s for you.

More updates will come!

It’s Goodreads Giveaway time!

Well, folks. It’s that time again.

I am giving away 100 copies of Exhumation (Kindle Edition), via Goodreads. Go and get yourself in the running… now!

Katherine Parsons’s Goodreads Review – 4/5!

“Pious is a brilliant character, in equal parts heroic and mysterious, determined and frustrated. His lack of consistent memory forms a very interesting part of the book, as he becomes a character who is not only seeking the truth of the world around him, but also of his own part in it. This journey of self-discovery is excellently written by Chapman.

The world of this story is also well created. Many aspects of it can be likened to similar fantasy stories–as with many books of this genre, it owes much to the books and authors who have come before it. However, I didn’t feel that this detracted from the world-building and atmosphere of the book, as it is still an immersive and creative world. Overall, a great book, and will appeal to mystery and fantasy fans alike. I look forward to reading the next of the series.”

Caitlyn’s Goodreads Review – 3/5!

“A long time ago in a galaxy far far away …”. The iconic opening lines of Star Wars could just as easily serve as an introduction to this book. The mix of references to other planets, interaction of species on an equal level, dramatic battle scene, and vaguely medieval world structure make this story seem like a fantastical mashup of Star Wars and Game of Thrones. An entertaining fantasy story in the truest sense, this book is filled with interesting characters and exciting details. One critique, however, as with many fantasy tales, the reader is plunged into an unfamiliar world with several references to places or personal titles that perhaps are difficult for the reader to keep track of or understand to what these titles refer. This book does provide a glossary, but it might have been more helpful placed at the beginning of the book instead of the end, along with a detailed character glossary.”
